MESSAGE FROM THE WORKERS PARTY OF IRELAND TO THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF VENEZUELA

Dear Comrades,

The Workers Party of Ireland sends warm comradely greetings to the Communist Party of Venezuela on the occasion of your XV National Congress which is being held from 22nd to 25th June 2017.

We wish to thank you for your kind invitation to attend, however, unfortunately we are not in a position to be present on this occasion but we wish to extend a message of support and solidarity as an expression of the friendship between our two parties.

CP of Venezuela

The Communist Party of Venezuela has a proud history of struggle, having been outlawed under military dictatorships and forced to operate in clandestine conditions and subject to anti-communist laws. The PCV and the Communist Youth of Venezuela have on many occasions been subjected to criminal attacks, including physical assaults on party premises.

This Congress is being held in circumstances of a deep and prolonged crisis in world capitalism including the current context of Venezuelan capitalism, extreme right forces which are attempting to take advantage of the present conditions and external threats from the US, its regional proxies and the Organisation of American States (OAS), long an instrument of imperialism, which pose a real threat to the achievements of the working class and popular organisations through an attempted parliamentary coup, explicit terrorist violence and open and blatant efforts at destabilisation and intervention designed to overthrow the Bolivarian government.

In circumstances where the contradictions between competing power blocs are intensifying the PCV remains a consistent defender of the interests of the Venezuelan working class, armed with a clear analysis which recognises the inadequacy of “solutions” which fail to understand the necessity for a revolutionary policy to which the working-class is central and that socialism cannot be built within a capitalist economy and that a fundamental change in the mode of production is required for the social achievements of workers to be guaranteed.

The Workers Party of Ireland applauds the principled positions advanced by the PCV, in providing a clear class based alternative to the failed capitalist system, in its steadfast opposition to imperialism and imperialist intervention, its commitment to the building of a powerful revolutionary movement involving workers, small farmers and popular forces, confronting the reactionary and pro-imperialist forces and to building a socialist society in Venezuela.

The Workers Party of Ireland sends its best wishes and solidarity. We wish you success in your deliberations at your Congress. Please convey our best wishes to the participants in the Congress and the comrades of the Communist Party of Venezuela.
