The Workers’ Party have condemned the arrest of Dáil deputy Mick Wallace and possible arrest of Clare Daly TD in relation to an unpaid fine for protesting against US Military use of Shannon Airport.

Workers’ Party President Michael Donnelly has condemned the arrest saying it was vindictive and politically inspired.  Mr. Donnelly said that instead of arresting those trying to highlight the government’s illegal support for the foreign military adventurism of the United States the gardaí should instead be inspecting the aircraft in question and arresting those violating Irish neutrality.

Mr. Donnelly has called for the immediate release of deputy Wallace and the dropping of the government’s action against the deputy and all others facing proceedings in relation to such protests at Shannon.

The Workers’ Party President has said his party would be supporting calls by the Peace & Neutrality Alliance (PANA) for a picket to be placed outside Leinster House tomorrow (Thursday) at 1.00pm.
