Workers’ Party Councillor Ted Tynan has described that the government capital spending plan, which is to be launched today, as a “large brown envelope with a hole at both ends”
Cllr. Tynan said that the contents of the plan had already been substantially and strategically leaked in advance and almost all of the proposed spending, if it is ever delivered, would be on projects which have been in the pipeline for years and have been announced many times before.
“The timing of this announcement”, said Cork based Cllr Tynan, “is a cynical exercise aimed entirely at retaining power for a coalition which has delivered only pain for the majority of citizens – the wage earners and those dependent on social welfare.
“Despite the desperate fanfare the government is trying to drum up for this plan, it still pales into insignificance when compared with the amount of public money which was sunk into zombie banks and which working class people have paid for through their tears of anguish and desperation since 2009. An over-wrapped trinket will not buy their votes back in the forthcoming general election”, said the Workers’ Party councillor.
