The President of the Workers’ Party, Michael Donnelly, has called for a massive turnout at Wednesday’s anti water charges rally in Dublin which is due to gather outside Leinster House at lunchtime.
Mr. Donnelly said that the government had to shaken out of its smug complacency in the wake of recent changes in the implementation of the water charges.
“The government is strongly hoping that these measures have placated the unprecedented level of anger and public protest against the water charges and privatisation”, said Mick Donnelly.
“The so-called concessions made by the government at the end of November are merely a ruse to give the impression that the government has listened to people. Clearly it has not listened and needs to be told that they have not fooled anybody. People know that these changes are short-term and that they are a Trojan Horse to much higher charges and privatisation in the near future. I am confident that this message will be delivered to the government in no uncertain terms on Wednesday”
