At least 80,000 people marched through the streets of central Dublin today to voice their opposition to water charges and privatisation.
Today’s rally was the fourth in a series of marches organised by the Right2Water campaign and supported by numerous political and community organisation. The Workers’ Party is affiliated to the Right2Water campaign and was well represented at today’ demonstration.
Marchers from all parts of Ireland, and a sizeable contingent from outside the country, most notably from Greece, converged on O’Connell Street to deliver a defiant message to the government. The campaign to boycott the water bills is rapidly gathering pace despite the establishment’s claims to the contrary. Estimates of the crowds attending the march were clearly understated in the mainstream media but the photos and videos told the true story – that of a massive turnout.
