The Workers’ Party Ard Fheis held in Dublin at the weekend raised €1,000 for a group of construction workers who have effectively been locked out from their jobs at a Department of Education site in Dublin as a result of being forced to declare themselves as self-employed and working for pay of as little as €5 per hour.

UNITE union member Paddy Redmond was introduced to the delegates by WP National Treasurer Sean Garland.  Paddy spoke of the conditions being imposed on workers at JJ Rhatigan who have now been on strike for more than six weeks.

During the conference a collection was taken up from among the delegates and guests and €1,000 was collected for the striking workers. This was then presented to Paddy Redmond who sincerely thanked the party.
